It's always a good idea to have replacement rubber rings on hand.

The outside of the peacock stirrup iron has the ‘break-away’ rubber ring and leather strap, which do the important job of releasing the rider’s foot in the event of danger or a fall. This prevents a rider from getting ‘hung up’ or caught by their foot in any way.

The rubber ring stretches from the top hook, down to the bottom ‘notch’, which has the leather strap that folds over the under end of the ring.

The replacement rings are sold in pairs.
