The Hanging Cheek Snaffle (also called a Baucher bit) has an eggbutt-like ring at the mouthpiece for the rein and a small ring to which the cheek pieces of the bridle are attached.
Hanging cheeks help encourage flexion, while the EquiKind mouthpiece has a mild action and an apple flavor. EquiKind bits are gentle, light weight, flexible and apple flavored.
This bit lies flat against the horse's face, and because of the way it attaches to the bridle, is quite fixed in the mouth. This gives it a more elevated position on the horse's tongue and concentrates pressure on the bars.
There is current research indicating that this type of bit relieves pressure on the poll, although traditionally it was thought to exert pressure on the poll.
