The Hanging Cheek Snaffle (also called a Baucher bit) has an eggbutt-like ring at the mouthpiece for the rein and a small ring to which the cheekpieces of the bridle are attached.
This bit lies flat against the horse's face, and because of the way it attaches to the bridle, is quite fixed in the mouth. This gives it a more elevated position on the horse's tongue and concentrates pressure on the bars. Without leverage, these bits don't exert poll pressure.
The Baucher is a good snaffle for horses that tolerate very little bit movement in their mouths. The copper lozenge assists with salivation.
Size: 4 1/2 inches
Cheek piece: 2.375" w x 4.25" h
I purchased this bit to use as a carriage driving bit for my Welsh stallion. He is SUPER light in the bridle and THIS bit makes him HAPPY! He prefers the lozenge in the middle and the fact that this is copper makes him even happier! He is on the bit, engaged and working through! lisa brooks on Jun 10th 2021
